it looks like the 'bots will we attending the festival in force this year. Be prepared to come with cash or fists full of credit card to take advantage of great deals on Viagra, premium gold prices and various electronics. Make here see hard like now!!!!
On another note, are any Knoxville-centric parties shaping up?
TOTALLY PSYCHED?!
One week from today! My gosh, I'm starting to have a really hard time concentrating at work.
And yes, Whispering, I'd love to get together with y'all and do some partying!

I'm excited that we are getting a new tent this year. and air mattress. and sheets. and comforter. Needless to say, my partner doesn't do the "roughing it" thing well. I would be not at all surprised when we start packing to find some sort of portable hot tub to be loaded into the car (though after typing that, the thought of a hot tub with Bonnaroo feet slipping into it kind of squicks me out).
I will be on the lookout for the Monkey Flag.

Camp Monkey won't be the same without you, gyps. We'll do some extra "hot apple pie" shots for you.

Can I get some more details on this? Are we talking bucket or is this something that is going to revolutionize life as we know it? C. may have one more purchase she needs to make.

We took a makeshift toilet 2 years ago but it didn't get much use. Perfected it last year and it was a hit. Worked like a charm but that thing was worse tha a sauna mid-day.
It was basically a portable toilet (complete with seat) and a tall shower tent. I think I may have pics someplace. I'll look around.

Ours is basically a tall tent made of tarp material. The toilet is like a camp chair (without the arms) with a "seat" that snaps on (also where the plastic bags are attached) and a "lid" that snaps shut. We don't use it all the time, but it sure does come in handy in the middle of the night. It also has a little half moon window, but, yeah, pretty hot in the middle of the day.

I looked at some of those, but don't know how I feel about just having curtains at my more delicate moments. I like something that at least approximates a more solid wall. Can you tell I don't camp much? Guess I'll stick with the port-o-johns.

OK all knowing blab. I'm gonna toss this out there and see if anyone knows the answer.
If I go with an artist that is performing and use one of their comps but am not listed as "crew", does that mean I still get to stay with the artist? I really don't want to show up to use one of their passes and be told to go elsewhere. My going this year pretty much hinges on the answer.

You need to have the artist find out if the 'comp' ticket allows Guest Camping. Artists get laminates and Guest Camping stickers for their cars. You can't get into Guest Camping without that laminate (although I think there are some wrist band exceptions. We had someone with VIP wrist bands camp next to us last year, but I think it was some sort of contest give away overflow from VIP camping fluke).
The artist in question should have a contact number for an artist rep of some sort. Have them call and figure out how many laminates they are being given. You may have to pick up said credentials at the artist check in w/ said artist. Although it seems like we left one pass for a late comer at artist check in two years ago.

Guest wristbands are allowed in the Guest camping area, as well. They are given to contest winners, "friends" of the producers, +1s of certain staff members, some artist entourage types . . . generally people who are somehow connected to the festival but not to the point where they need all-access passes.
Artist comps, regardless of whether they are laminates or guest wristbands, should allow you into the Guest camping area and lounge (plus access to Guest amenities). However, you do have to have a parking pass in order to bring your car in and set up a campsite.

Looks like I'm definitely in. Not sure how this will work out since it's a last minute call. I would tell you to look for the funhouse flag but my festival pole snapped on the last day of Roo last year and I don't have time to fix it.

I guess I'll see some a you assholes down there in the 'guest/VIP/media/artist/whatever' area. I'll be doing this here "blogging" thing for Knoxville Voice. I'll be with my brother who is a sort of sunny dispositioned, extroverted, likeable version of me. Look for us in his silver Yukon with some sort of godawful hillbilly lean-to built around it.

Hot, sounded good. Decent setlist, good story to go with 18 Wheels of Love. Probably a 7 out of 10 on my personal DBT show scale.

Did that dude with the flag in Stephen Marley's band wave the thing the entire set as usual? Blows me away as much as the small guy who used to dance for Meat Beat Manifesto back in the day.
Any Beatle Bob sightings?

He also MC'd for them, as he also did for Solomon Burke. Hell, I thought the guy might be retarded or something. He's a fookin' genius is what he is, becoming a professional scenester.
By the way, for anyone who's following along, I just posted my last dispatch on Bonnaroo '08 at the knoxvoice.com blog site.
That blogging. That spontaneous writing is some crazy shit. I think I prefer a little editing capability.

I had my picture taken with Beatle Bob. He told me about all his radio shows which I don't really know that they exist, but hey it's BB.
Yes, the flag waving guy waved the flag the entire Stephen Marley set. They also had an emergency backup flag waver (Check the picture.) I'm pretty sure it was SM's son. He waved his little flag the entire set too. That set provided me with my mantra for the festival (and for life in general) "Everything's gonna be alright". I know that's a Bob Marley lyric, but somehow it touches me every time I hear it, no matter who sings or says it.
