so by late saturday/early sunday 3 people in my camp (including my girlfriend) got these really ugly and painful rashes on their ankles. by sunday i saw dozens and dozens of similarly afflicted attendees. well, turns out the bonnarash is actually a flesh-eating strep infection caused by horseshit that will spread like wildfire and get into your kidneys if not treated immediately with antibiotics. if you or someone you know has been affected and hasn't seen a doctor yet, do so.

I have a rash, but it's mostly on my arms, and doesn't seem to be getting worse. but now I'm kinda worried.

apparently this particular rash doesn't sting or itch so much as hurt. my gf described it as feeling like her ankles were sprained (which made walking around all day particularly unpleasant for her). there was also a fair bit of swelling. so if that sounds familiar go get it checked out. if it just itches, ben gay will probably do the trick.

Yeah, mine feels more like poison ivy (but it's not). But Kimmi has it on her wrist, and it's red and swollen and kind of warm. Thanks for the info, Jeffx.

hope it helps. paying for a doctor's visit and prescription after bonnaroo sucks, but it beats dialysis.

Interesting. The "official" Roo boards have a thread on this topic as well, but they seem to think it is an allergic reaction to pesticide:

I've itched a bit, but nothing bad. I'm sure that will change after reading this thread.
We had little grasshoppers everywhere around camp. I woke up one morning with one sitting on my nose and the antennae moving around. A few people found ticks. The grass was much higher so maybe that added to the bug issue. The horseshit was much more prevalent than I have ever seen it too. By Saturday afternoon you couldn't walk anywhere while looking up.

thanks for posting this jeffx ... it got me to the walk-in clinic today ... my right wrist is swollen and red w/bumps - it's not itchy but does hurt and is warm ... i told the doc what you had posted ... she didn't test the area but gave me 10 days of antibiotics that would work on strep ... she told me if it doesn't get any better in the next two or three days to come back ... other than this, i had a freakin' fantastic time!

yeah, glad to help. i don't claim to have a clue about what this is from a medical perspective, i'm just passing along what she said the doctor said. i know that antibiotics seem to be working, which means that at least in her case it's an infection vs. allergic reaction.

hope your wrist heals up in a hurry, kimmi.

That sounds like a horrific thing to deal with. How's your girlfriend doing, jeff?

much improved, thanks for asking. and for the record, she was a damn trooper about it. she wasn't about to let it interfere with her favorite time of year.
