I agreed to take my 16 yr old daughter who lives and breathes music and a couple of her friends. We hope to borrow an RV and head down Thursday. Her favorite movie is woodstock and she really has an appreciation for the art of music, but what the hell have I agreed to? Am I hosed? Watch out for the brown acid??????? Can anyone who has been before shed some light on the issue of kids at B'roo. Is there like drugs everywhere? I have never been.... She has been taught well thanks to her mom, not me... but aside from implanting a gps/shock system i'm clueless....... help?
Last year I saw tons of families there together. I interviewed a guy who had brought his teen son and three teenage pals from New England.
But there are drugs everywhere OUTSIDE the main area - meaning in the camping areas. But once you are inside the main Bonnaroo area, it's like a very nice, well-kept festival atmosphere. Lots of families and kids of all ages running around. No open drug use that I saw. Folks were fairly discreet.
If your child is going to be freaked out by seeing people buying/selling drugs or getting high in the camping area, you might want to discuss what she will likely see before you get there.
An RV is definitely the way to go if you can swing it. Get there as early as you can to get a camping spot as close to the main gates as you can. That way you will have to walk through less of the camping area to go into the festival and back to your campsite.

True. The only heavily-used recreational drug inside the music area would be marijuana. Personally, I KNOW that weed is safer than alcohol, so I really don't mind it. But, hey, you are the parent. It should be a great time for the both of you either way. Like kag said, if she will be freaked out by the buying/selling outside the music area, you may want to have a talk with her. Let me know how it works out!

we've come for your daughter!
All around Centeroo, expect to see people openly smoking pot, because you'll see it a lot.
But unless you're, say, walking around on Shakedown Street, that should be the extent of drug using, selling, etc.

i wouldn't worry about your daughter as long as both of you are aware of the recreational drug use...like others have said, none of that stuff is really seen in centeroo. besides, if your daughter appreciates the art of music, YOU will not have to worry about the extra junk associated with it! She'll be fine--no worries! :)

Thanks a bunch for the insight....this is the sort of info I was looking for. I was just wondering if it was more about the drugs than the music. The daughter goes to farragut and probably sees more drugs in the parking lot during one week than I managed to cram in my system during the..well.. during that phase. I am really looking forward to the bonnaroo
experience and can't wait. Hope it turns into an annual family thing..see you there.
peace
