Sigh ... I missed the Roobanooaroo. How'd it go for those who went?

It was superb. I came in late and left early- but packed a lot in.

Did you go as a ticket-holder this year, or did you volunteer for various duties?
Music = good.
Everything else = not so much.
This was my last year of going to this event.

I didn't work this year- just fun seeking.
And fortunately for me- a lot of the music I like was not as popular as other types- so Bill Frisell and Amadou/Miriam were very easy to walk up to at show time and get a good standing place. or just go up to the side and make your way over like at dungen-
I can see why many folks wouldn't enjoy the big giant craziness- but for a couple of days a year I quite enjoy it. Always exhausted by the end. But hell, that's part of the deal. Seeing the Band of Humans totally win over the crowd was one of the highlights of the set. And one could walk up to the stage at that event.
Also, I have to disagree with KAG about Radiohead. We walked down into the crowd (took forty minutes to get across the field)- and people were WAY WAY into it- we did the same thing for Petty- but more people were talking and on cell phones, looking in other directions, even though they were very much into it, too.
But for Radio head, I have never ever seen a big audience that much into a show. Granted, I had to go deep into to find that- but it was def. there. I got shhsh'd for talking on two occasions. I thought Radiohead were fantastic- and I wasn't sure if I'd even like their live show. They could have cut out about 30 minutes, though.

I saw your fez near the porta potty, but you weren't under it. It was, however, floating.

I had a blast but I won't lie....it takes some effort to maintain your comfort level. At first I thought the hike from our campsite was going to be an issue but in hindsight, it worked out great. Excellent neighbors and a very laid back vibe. I managed to make it up until the start of Matisyahu and had to leave. I have never gone that dirty for that long and just felt the need to get clean and go to sleep in my own bed. Would I go again? Sure, if the lineup was stellar and similar to this year. Good time and definitely an experience like none other. Can't wait to get motivated to take the pics off of the camera.
As for the music, the every act seemed to have brought their "A" game. Tom Petty was a ton of fun and Radiohead simply blew my mind. I couldn't believe the people around me belting out every single lyric at the top of their lungs. The topic of conversation amongst everyone that I spoke to Sunday morning was just how really good Radiohead was. Amadou and Mariam were great as was Elvis Costello. Cypress Hill? Whew? I think you could catch a buzz just walking by the stage. Beck was a ton of fun. The surprise for me was Death Cab. I was shocked to enjoy them as much as I did because I'm really not a fan of their stuff. Maybe is was just the laid back vibe of the afternoon sun but they were impressive. I think my favorite smaller stage sets had to be by My Morning Jacket and Shooter Jennings. The MMJ set should be the "were you there" moment of this festival. Those guys have officially outgrown "That Tent". Shooters set was like having church in a bar. Oh, and let's not forget the drunkeness of Lucero Thursday night with Beatle Bob dancing in back. Whew! Man oh man. What a time.

I'm pretty sure I was still wearing it at the time. Some washboard player named "Matt" told me there were 'shrroomsszs in there.

Should we send out a search party to track you down. If so, do you want to go with them to look for yourself?
Anybody else faaaaading at work this afternoon?
;-)
I am seriously tired.
Was a blast!
Besides the obvious Radiohead and Petty shows being great, I really dug:
- Marah
- The Magic Numbers
- Betty Lavette
- Bright Eyes (with Gillian Welch/David Rawlings)
- hearing Andrew Bird from a distance...
There were times during Radiohead when it seemed like the entire crowd was silent. Pretty amazing to see.
I personally thought Death Cab for Cutie was more than boring. The sound was great though.
Every single person I met who was working the festival was extremely nice, and (even though exhausted) managed to put on a smile. I was truly impressed with the laid-back vibe all weekend, and impressed with the logistics that must go into a production like that. Pretty cool.

I'm afraid of the quantum physics implications of meeting myself halfway back. Worlds collide, baby. Worlds collide.

Ditto that.
On the upside, I did discover a couple of good restaurants in Tullahoma.
On the downside, I wound up spending a lot more than I would have to see basically 5 shows at the going rate of exchange in Nashville for equivalent entertrainment.
