Myself and at least 2 others will again ride our bikes to Bonnaroo. Last year's ride and festival was, I think, the funnest week of my life. If anyone else wants to join us, we'll be glad to have you along. You gotta provide your own bike, legs, food & lodging (although I will be glad to make hotel reservations for you), Bonnaroo tickets, camping stuff and a ride back. I'll just provide encouragement and route planning. We stay in hotels along the way. There's still time to train yourself for the journey. We're about making good time, but the emphasis is on good, not time. Nice steady pace, no racing (except for county lines. And if you've never seen a two up sprint between two guys with backpacks and panniers, you don't know what you're missing.) PM me with questions if interested. JB

Here are the stats from last year:

Day 1 (Knoxville to Dayton)- 88 miles
5:39 riding time
15.6 mph avereage speed
4890' cummulative ascending
5970' cumulative descending

Day 2 (Dayton to McMinnville)- 75 miles
5:30 riding time
13.6 mph average speed
4400' ascending
4270' descending

Day 3 (McMinnville to Manchester)- 31.2 miles
1:55 riding time
16.2 average speed

OK. So explain the lodging circs. Tent camping on the first two legs? I've been putting in the miles in the cold and one the trainer.

I said it to you crazy people last year and I'll say it again: THIS SOUND SLIKE HELL!!!! I can't imagine wanting to ride a bike that far.

But you did all look very jolly (and fit!) once you arrived :-)

No, we stay in hotels the whole way over. Once you're at Bonnaroo, that's your biz. After riding all day, I want a shower and a bed. And I don't want to have to carry all that camping stuff.

Interesting. I plan on having my Allegro by then. Would you have someone available to schlep tent to Manchester? Otherwise it'd go on the bike.

SOUND SLIKE HELL
band name alert!

JB, I don't think I can be ready this year but your proposition is sure interesting.

How do you store you bike when you arrive? Didn't I see that B-roo don't allow no bikes?

Well, the trick is to have somebody waiting for you at check in with all your camping gear (or an RV!). We just disassembled our bikes a bit and threw them in the RV and put a blanket over them. Nobody even looked.

I think the "no bikes" thing is for the festival itself. And it makes sense. Cuz a bike at the festival is an accident waiting to happen.

.Once we got to the festival (after 250 miles of up and over the Cumberland Plateau), the last thing I wanted to do was ride my bike.

There's still 2 1/2 months till Bonnaroo. It wouldn't be totally impossible to get in shape. Would it?

It's a great way to see Tennessee.
