If ya wanna skip the Richard is God Rant ... the guitar lessons down at the bottom
i had (mebbe 5-Picks? , mebbe today?) been meaning to sing the praises of Richard Lloyd's newish Cd ' The Radiant Monkey '. Each time i try i just end up listening to the damn thing again for all its 43 glorious moments and feeling to spent to talk, much less, write about the damn thing.
i will.. for now, suffice it to say that it outshines many of my favorite Tom Verlaine records (Lloyd/Verlaine ='ed Git in 'Television', for the uninitiated), and is easily the best thing i have heard in a long long time; easily the best 'guitar record'(its SO much more) since .. oh hell .. i dunno.
what i will say , for now (helps explain Lloyd's .. deep basics) is that he gave himself RULES for 'Radiant monkey'
They =
"no effects on any of the guitars; no fuzz boxes, no choruses, no nothing; just Statocasters straight into amplifiers. No more than three guitar parts on any song: one main rhythm guitar., one secondary part, and one lead.
the record is under 45 minutes long, containing 11 songs, most of which are short, this is in line with records done in the late 60's." ~ Richard Lloyd
its amazing. buy it now. (if ya play guitar and are late-30's-40's-mid 50's; no excuse, you've probubly gone through countless re-purchases of Lps Cassettes and Cds either made by or inspired by 'Television, Tom Verlaine and , of course ... Richard Lloyd.
OH ! .. Richard is on a 3-piece tour w/ the Drummer and Bassist from Television now.
oh! and heres the record cover
(one i think looks inspired by an old John Sewell Teenage Love poster to me)
(btw Lloyd is "clean" now)
A N Y W A Y S .... THE LESSON:
for you'ns that dont know; Lloyd has had a long running "gutar lesson" column in Guitar Wold (Print + Online)
if you take this one in first .. they are a great ride.
HERE YA GO
Richard Lloyd teaches Intervals ! (and GBGBs and Hendrix and .. )
oh ... mmm no replies just yet(?) ILL ADD THIS :
Richard Lloyd Teaches Scales (From his 'column' "The Chemical Guitarist")
ENJOY!

In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.
the blab is an excellent place for brain shutdown. - - JFM
too many monkeys, not enough footballs - - RWP
wag more - - bark less
always loved that quote, Plum!
(and i sucked.. i mean suuuucccck(ed) at math)
and. but. also.
i dunno about anyone else or any future anyone else
but Richards brilliant lesson(2nd-scales/major) in steps/scales etc... kinda teared me up. i know a few of you Blabbers were students of T's (Terry Hill) or Q's (Hector Qirko) .. and in the late 70's i fit both categories, lol, on the same day (from 'Camel #1' up to Hector's spot upstairs @ P'n'G).
i remember it was heaven.
i remember that sometime in 19 or 80 Terry taped a bunch of Television/Tom Verlaine(1st) for me and i about lost my mind inside the 'Marquee Moon' .
i watch Lloyd teach and feel like pulling T outta the ether and saying, "look Bro! , he's doin' the "no nut" thing you showed me, and cutting to the whole half-whole whole-half point" - " i thought mebbe it was just me that stole it from ya! ..."
its surreal.
anywho;
i usually tell my students to avoid YouTube "lessons" and online Tab like the plague: NOT THESE
if you happen to be a "i just started" or a teacher like me (or ex teacher like IchyBro) this series will do wonders for you, as it makes such HUGE things so very 'pocketable' ... and for the other old plank spankers out there (me very much included) Richards 4 parter will show you why you fell in love with that wood 'n' wire to begin with. the man is gifted.
a quick bump for the TV Lloyd/Verlaine freaks who may have missed this o'er the weekend
